Tionton Duvante was born in Colombus, Ohio July 2, 1973. He
wrote his first song at the age of 5 entitled "Journey to the stars" As
a
young child, he was drawn to the up beat rythyms of disoc and futuristic
sounds of early electronic music, notably the work of Yellow Magic
Orchestra
and Gary Numan. He was later drawn to the music associated with
Breakdancing: Electro as well as the sounds of The Art of Noise, Depeche
Mode and New Order.
He also enjoyed classical music, an din the autum of 1989 began his
studies about classical music and opera at the Ohio State University.
In the autum of 1991, the siminal techno band Body Release
was forned with members Todd Shines, Charles Noel, and Mike Szewczyk.
Here,
as the core composer of the group, is where he formed his unique stylee
of music making. After the breakup of the group in 1993 , he began to
seriously try his hand at the art of djing. composing took a back seat
for a
period of time in which he developed his skills required to express what
he
heard in his head or visualised while watching others play records. His
technique was infulenced by the ideologies of jazz improvistaion and
John
Cage mor than the of hip-hop which an assumption is often made. behind
the turntables thsi mid-mannered gentelman seems possed by the very
spirit
of the music and he channels it's very energy into the audience.
Titonton's
djing is liek his music, highly emotional and never stationary.
Titonton has played throught the USA, Canada, and Europe
including gigs in Chicago, Boston, New Orleans, Toronto, London, Paris,
Barcelona , Amsterdam, Brussels and Berlin. He has played at least 60
gigs a year
since 1997. His well received style has earned him a spot in Tim Barr's
book
A Rough Guide to Techno as well as mention in others books on Techno as
well.
Titonton is busy running th erecord lable Residual
Recordings along side Thomas James and has currently released his second
full
length album entitled " Selection for Intercoarse" This new album is
liek his live performances and is scored for live strings , voice, drums
and electronic intruments. Titonton is amazingly talented in both
composing & djing, he's the one to watch in the new milenium.
